Review: Somme: Serre (Horsfall & Cave)

Somme: Serre.

A compact book (fewer than 150 pages) that aspires to serve as a companion volume for those who may be touring one sector of the Somme battlefield. It’s an engagingly written history of one episode of the battle, and is profusely illustrated. The book includes a guide for battlefield walks and car tours, and a brief but adequate index.

It’s been a very long time since I visited northeastern France, and at that time I wasn’t in the Great War research mode, but from what I remember of that weekend trip, I think this book would adequately fulfill its mission.
